Since its inception in 1987, our Legacies Series has gained a reputation for selectively presenting the most important historical, documented and reliable information available. It came into being through the genuine need and request for this vital medium, particularly from public schools across the country. So, we made it affordable, easily transportable and complementary to the Journal(s) of African Civilizations in clarity and style.
Dr. Van Sertima's Journals served as a solid springboard for the success of Legacies. Out of this exciting marriage of the written word and oratorical skill came a wealth of knowledge, digestible by the young, the elderly and the visually impaired. While the unrelenting commitment of our educators is nothing short of heroic, the multitudinous roles they must play, coupled with the increasing numbers of students to be served, a need for a more dynamic and expedient way to absorb and disseminate information was clear. They also needed a bridge to parents whose time for relearning and participation in the educational process was limited.
So, with their encouragement, teachers across the country made Legacies a reality and Dr. Van Sertima's untiring fervor has made learning for everyone an exciting adventure through time. His lectures are brilliant, stimulating, passionate and absorbing. What's more, they have led people of African descent into fascinating chapters of history where they never even thought they belonged. I am, and will forever be, grateful for the opportunity to play a role in this great stage of enlightenment and development.
Do join us by collecting and sharing our library of recordings (soon to be available in CDs). This is our way of doing just a bit more to broaden the vision of our people in the eyes of others as well as in the hearts and minds of ourselves. We thank you for your support, patronage, and most of all, for sharing in this forever-unfolding journey with us.
